Legislation mandates that special education service providers report their students with disabilities progress in attaining IEP goals on a regular basis. These reports are referred to as progress monitoring. Progress monitoring is considered an evidence based practice that requires frequent, systematic, and consistent assessments to directly measure both the studentŸ??s growth in meeting IEP goals and the teaching practices employed to address the skills delineated in the IEP. This study investigated the practice of progress monitoring in a Midwestern suburban public school districts. Findings from this study suggest that progress reports lack effective communication as to the advancement of studentsŸ?? goal attainment and adjustments made to instruction, as it pertains to growth toward the IEP goal, was not evident. The presenters will review findings from their study, and will provide an interactive session regarding means to educate all IEP team members. Through active engagement the participants will: 1. Examine the use of IEP data and how it informs instruction. 2. Identify instructional practices in the use of training materials as a tool in preparing parents, teachers, and related services personnel. 3. Explore ways to educate educational team members in IEP progress monitoring with respect to gathering data, data analysis, sharing results with families, and impacting instruction
