Each year, the TASH Conference strengthens the disability field by connecting attendees to innovative information and resources, facilitating connections between stakeholders within the disability movement, and helping attendees reignite their passion for an inclusive world. This year’s conference theme, “Gateway to Equity,” explores inclusive communities, schools, and workplaces that support people with disabilities, including those with complex support needs, in living a fair, just, and balanced life. Inclusive environments with same-age peers are Ÿ??gateways to equityŸ? for individuals with severe disabilities. Unfortunately, few educators have been adequately prepared to provide appropriate services in inclusive environments and thus struggle to meet studentsŸ?? needs. This session describes an interdisciplinary model to prepare special educators alongside those with whom they routinely collaborate (e.g., general educators, counselors, administrators) to provide services for students with severe disabilities. Needs assessment data gathered to facilitate model development, program overview, and evaluation data gathered to date will be shared. After this session, participants will be able to: a. Describe processes for assessing the preparation of educators to serve students with severe disabilities; b. Identify key components of an interdisciplinary preparation model c. Apply this information when describing needed changes in personnel preparation.
