2016 TASH Conference has ended
Each year, the TASH Conference strengthens the disability field by connecting attendees to innovative information and resources, facilitating connections between stakeholders within the disability movement, and helping attendees reignite their passion for an inclusive world. This year’s conference theme, “Gateway to Equity,” explores inclusive communities, schools, and workplaces that support people with disabilities, including those with complex support needs, in living a fair, just, and balanced life. Explore how to overcome the barriers to finding love and what the disability system can improve on in enabling dating relationships to be fostered, rather than hindered b the system. Explore the types of curriculum parents, teachers and therapists need to provide for such relationships. * Learn the common barriers to romance in the disability system and how to overcome them * How schools, therapists, and parents can provide a sex education curriculum that explains the risks but at the same time teaches the pleasure side to learners wwho may be more direct and literal and might not pick up dating or romance the subtle way. * How enabling access to private time, unsupervised time, late night hours, going places as an individual or as a couple (as opposed to a large group), unrestricted and unstructured community access is necessary for such relationships to happen. How parents, support providers can approach this without fear.
